Settling In The West

Vigilance Comittee group of citizens who bring justice to criminals.
Hydraulic Mining spraying water at high pressure on a mountain/hill to rid of dirt and reveal mineral.
Open Range Large areas of grass owned by the government.
Hacienda a huge ranch
Barrios Spanish-speaking neighborhoods in a city/town
Homestead public land used by living and cultivating it
Dry Farming A way of farming dry land by planting seeds deep in dry land
Sodbuster A farmer on the Great Plains
Bonanza Farm A large wheat farm
Nomad A person who travels in search for food
Annuity Money paid by contract by regular interval
Assimilate TO take in a group from a different culture population
Allotment Land given to certain people for certain reasons
