what does the EXECUTIVE BRANCH do? it runs the day to day business if the government and proposes ideas that could become laws.
Who makes up the EXECUTIVE BRANCH? The Queen, Governor General, Prime Minister and the Cabinet.
What does the governor general do? She fills in for the queen and signs final bills before they become laws.
What does the Prime Minister do? he is the head of government in Canada. he is the leader of the political party that won the most seats. he choses the cabinet members and the portfolio they manage. he also choses the senator.
What does the Cabinet do? they are all members of parliament. they look after the cabinet portfolios. the PM assigns them their portfolios.
What is the LEGISLATIVE BRANCH? it is known as Canada's Parliament.
Who makes up the LEGISLATIVE BRANCH? The house of Commons and the Senate.
What is the House of Commons? it is the major law making body of the system, who debate, study, propose changes and vote on BILLS.
Who make up the House of Commons? Members of Parliament. they are voted for by the people from each district. Each member belongs to a party. the party with the most voted in MP's are the party in power.
What are the MP's supposed to represent? districts. they are supposed to accurately represent all the people from every province.
What is a Senate? they are known as the "Sober Second Thought". which means bills go through him for another look. so the Senate can deny a bill, but usually just makes changes.
Who does the Senate represent? The senate represents the interests and rights of Canada's regions and minorities.
How do you become the senate and for how long can you be one? You have to be appointed by the Prime Minister and you can be Senate until you are 75.
What is a BILL? they are ideas the executive branch want made into laws.
What is a Lobbyist? they are people hired by groups to fight for a cause. they try to persuade the MP's while bills are being voted on or changed.
What is the JUDICIAL BRANCH? the branch that interprets and applies the law by making legal judgment
Who makes up the JUDICAL BRANCH? All of Canada's courts of law.

What is the Supreme Court? it is the highest court in Canada and has final ruling on all legal questions.
How many judges are in the Supreme Court? Why is it that number? There are 9 judges. Because of it being an odd number, it prevents Deadlock.
Who nominates the 9 judges? The PM and the Cabinet. They are interviewed one by one by the MP's then the PM picks them from the bunch the MP's have approved.
What does YCJA stand for? Youth Criminal Justice Act
What age does the YCJA apply to? Ages 12-17

How old can you be, when you could be tried for an adult? 14 depending on the severity of the crime and depending on our history.
What are some of the goals the YCJA try to achieve? To rehabilitate youth and make them give back to the community they hurt. To make them learn from their crime. To work on the youth's life and why they are participating in crime.
