What was the name of the United States first form of Government? The Articles of Confederation
Why was America's first form of government a failure? It didn't share any power with the states. The government had all the power. They didn't have the power to tax. The money that they made was worthless.
What was the goal of the Constitutional Convention? The goal was to amend the Articles of Confederation into what is now the Constitution.
What was the New Jersey Plan? The New Jersey Plan was that each state would have an equal vote, no matter what the population was.
What was the Virginia Plan? The Virginia Plan was to have the number of votes and representatives depend on population.
What was the Great Compromise The Great Compromise was having the Senate having an equal number of votes and the House of Representatives which was based on population.
What was the 3/5 Compromise? The compromise that instead of counting slaves as either people or property, you would count them as 3/5 of a person.
Who was the main author of the Constitution? James Madison was the "Father of the Constitution
What is the Preamble? The preamble is the opening statement of the Constitution
What does the word "bicameral" mean? It means having two chambers or houses
What is the primary role of the Legislative Branch? To make laws
What is the primary role of the Executive Branch? To enforce the laws
What is the primary role of the Judicial Branch? To interpret laws
What are the requirements to be a member of the House of Representatives? Age: 25 US Citizen for:7 years Must live in the state they reprsent
What are the requirements to be a Senator? Age: 30 US citizen for: 9 years Must live in the state they represent
What are the requirements to be a President? Age: 30 Must be born in the US Must have lived in U.S for 14 years
What are the powers of Congress? the power to tax, to regulate commerce, to make money, to borrow money, to do what is necessary and proper, and make the standard weights and measurements for US, make post offices, approve presidential appointments and nominations, declare war
What are the powers of the President? The powers of the President include being the commander in chief, , the power to enforce or veto bills, and appoint federal commissions
How long is a House of Representatives term? 2 years
How long is a Senators term? 6 years
How long is a Presidents term? 4 years
