What was Dred Scott and the decision? Dred Scott was a freed slave, that wanted to sue his owner in Missouri but couldn't because he wasn't an U.S. citizen.
Why did Dred Scott cause tension? He caused tension because the Northerners wanted him to be free, and the Southerners wanted him to remain a slave.
Who was Harriet Tubman? She was known as Moses. She was also the conducter of the Underground Railroad. She helped people escape to the North through the Underground Railroad.
Who was Abraham Lincoln and his election? Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president. When he was elected, he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation which was a document that said that all slaves were free.
Who was General Robert E. Lee & why did he surrender? General Robert E. Lee was an agressive Confederate General. He surrendered because he couldn't replace his men nor his supplies.
Who was John Brown? John Brown was a very committed abolisionist who wanted to free slaves.
Why did John Brown create tensions? He increased tentions because he made people mad about slavery by trying to create a fight at Harpers Ferry, but he lost.
Who was John Wilkes Booth? John Wilkes Booth was the man that assasanated Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater.
Who was General George Pickett? General George Pickett was the General in the Confederacy that used to be in the U.S. Army. He also led Pickett's Charge.
Who was Jefferson Davis? He was the president of the Confederacy during the Civil War.
Who was General Ulysses S. Grant? A Union General, who then became the commander of the Union.
Who was General William Sherman? He was the man that led Sherman's March.
A war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded. Total War
What did the 13th Amendment say? It said that slavery was officialy abolished.
What was the Fugitive Slave law? The Fugitive Slave Law was a law that alowed slave owners to go to the North and recapture their runaway slaves.
What are differences between the North and the South? North: no slaves, more railroad, more factories. South: has slaves, mostly farmers, many small towns.
What are some advantages of the North and South? Adv. North: more of the railroad, more factories, less slaves in pop. Adv. South: farmers, rich soil, good farmland.
What are the hardships of a soldeir in the Civil War? Woken by drum, slept in log huts/ tents, a lot of marching, bulltes everywhere, people dying, got diseases, sick people everywhere in feild hospitals, piles of dead people, piles of arms and legs.
What was the event that had the most impact on the Civil War? Harriot Stowe because it was the first event that happened, and it was the one that made the people the most shocked.
What is one of the major events in 1863? The Emancipation proclamation because it freed all slaves. The E.P. was created by Lincoln shortly after he was elected.
What was Uncle Tom's Cabin? A book written by Harriot Beacher Stowe that caused tension between the North and South.

What was the Underground Railroad? Not an actual railroad. It was a path that Harriot Tubman conducted and helped people escape to freedo in the North.

Any of the slave states that bordered the northern free states during the US Civil War. Border states
What was Bleeding Kansas? A mini Civil War between proslavery and antislavery that was in the Kansas, Nebraska Territory that lasted 3 years.
What was the Siege of Vicksberg? When Ulysses S. Grant (North) surrounded a city until it surrendered. The outcome was that the Confederacy got cut in 1/2 and Grant became head of Union.
What was Gettysburg? Robert E. Lee (South) planned to Criple the North. The outcome was that South retreated and will no longer attack the North. It is also known as the Bloodiest Battle.
What was the main goal of the Gettysburg Address? To hold a ceremony for those who died. "All men are created equal".
Who wanted total war? Ulysses S. Grant
Which state secedeed first? South Carolina
What was the result of the Emancipation Proclimation? All of the slaves were free.
What was the result of Abe Lincoln getting elected? He freed slaves with the E.P.
What was important about Fort Sumter? The first shots were fired at Fort Sumter declaring the Civil War.
