What is Beringia? a land bridge that connected Asia to North America during the last Ice Age. It allowed migration to North America from Asia- and is located where the Bering Strait is now.

Who were the Mound Builders? Early Native Americans who built large earthen structures. Some mounds were used as burial sites.
The Hohokam an agricultural group who lived in the American Southwest(now Arizona) from 300 B.C. to A.D. 1400 They dug irrigation canals to grow corn, beans and squash in the desert- they traded with Mexico, California and the Southwest.
The Anasazi Lived in the area where Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona meet- they were mainly farmers who traded widely- like the Hohokam.They built houses with hundreds of rooms and many stories- some against the walls of overhanging canyons.
The Iroquois League The alliance of the Cayuga,Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, and Seneca Nations that brought a long period of peace to the Iroquois. This League was formed on the advice of Deganawida- a Huron tribe member.
Deganawida The peacemaker- he advised the Iroquois Nations to form an alliance to bring peace- he was not a very good speaker, so a Iroquois chief, Hiawatha helped him in this.

Domestication the practice of breeding (growing) plants or taming animals to meet human needs.
Slash-and-burn agriculture The Iroquois adapted their forest environment for farming by cutting down and burning trees on a plot of land. The ashes enriched the soil. When the soil was worn out, they simply cut and burned another forest.
Matrilineal Societies in which ancestry is traced through the mother.
