What was the Dred Scott Decision? Dred Scott wanted to sue his master because his master moved to a free state. This case went all the way to the Supreme Court, and the court decided that African Americans can’t sue or go to court because they aren’t citizens, they are property.
How was the Dred Scott Decision a cause of the Civil War? The slave owners now have the right to bring their "property" into any state because the government can't tell them they can't bring property with them.
What was John Brown and Harper's Ferry? John brown was a radical abolitionist. He wanted to raid a federal armory in hope that the slaves would join in so they could supply the slaves to fight for their freedom. He doesn’t succeed because no slaves came to help.
How was this a cause of the Civil War? The abolitionists took Brown's execution as the government supporting slavery and that he was killed because he wanted to abolish slavery. But he was really executed because he broke a federal law.
What were the Lincoln-Douglas Debates? They were running for Illinois Senate seat. They were about who should determine if a state is free or slave. Douglas’s opinion was that the citizens should have popular sovereignty, but Lincoln believed that it’s the federal government’s decision.
