LD SS COLD WAR QUIZ

TermDefinition
COLD WAR War in which the U.S. tried to contain communism against the Russians. A struggle over political differences between nations carried on by methods of short of war.
CAPITALISM An economic system based on private property and free enterprise.
COMMUNISM A political theory advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs
CONTAINMENT Action or policy of preventing the expansion of a hostile country or influence. Trying to keep communism in the parts of the world that it was in and trying to prevent it from spreading to other countries.
RED SCARE The fear of communists living in the United States.
TRUMAN DOCTRINE/MARSHALL PLAN Provided immediate aid to the Greeks and the Turks. The U.S. pledged that it would help fight the spread of communism worldwide.
BERLIN AIRLIFT When the Russians blockaded West Berlin, Truman ordered hundreds of planes to drop packages with food in it for the people in Berlin.
BERLIN WALL Wall put up to separate East Berlin from the rest of the noncommunist world. Also, stopped people from fleeing from East to West Berlin.
NATO A military alliance with much of Western Europe. This group was created to defend against the Soviets.
WARSAW PACT The Soviet's created their own alliances with all of the Communist countries.
JAPAN Country that controlled Korea during WWII
USSR (RUSSIA) Country that supported North Korea after WWII
UNITED STATES Country that supported South Korea after WWII
US/UN INVOLVEMENT IN KOREAN WAR To stop the spread of communism in Korea
RESULTS OF KOREAN WAR After both sides pushed back and forth, they had the same amount of land from when they started.

NUCLEAR MISSILES What the Soviets put in Cuba after WWII
U.S. CONCERN The missiles were very close to the U.S.
MILITARY ACTION - CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS The U.S. established a blockade around Cuba.
RESULTS OF MILITARY ACTION Soviets took their missiles out of Cuba and the U.S. took their missiles out of Turkey.
