| Movement | An organized effort to draw attention to a problem or to change public opinion or policy. |
| Activist | A person who uses direct action to either support or oppose an issue. |
| Boycott | Refusal to have dealings with a person, a business, or a country. |
| Civil Rights | Rights belonging to a person because he or she is a citizen. |
| Minority Group | A group that is considered different from the dominant group in society, and often does not receive the same advantages. |
| Segregation | The forced separation of people, usually based on race. |
| Women's Rights | Economic, legal, and social rights for women equal to those for men. |
| Who was Kathy Striebel? | A 12 year old girl who planned on becoming a women's rights crusader. She wanted to join the boy's swim team for her school, but was rejected. |
| Protest | An expression of disapproval, or objection, often in opposition to something or someone. |
| Compromise | An agreement reached by adjustment or changing an original plan. |
| Motivation | The act of providing a reason to act a certain way. |
| Equality | The state of being equal, or the same as. |
