legislature lawmaking body
massacre an event that causes the death of unresisting or helpless people.
Declaration of Independence the document written in 1776 that said the American colonies were free and independent states and no longer part of Great Britian.
United Provinces of Central America people removed Iturbide from power, and they formed the United Provinces.
monarchy government in which a king, queen, or emperor has supreme power.
Estates-General a group of advisors to the king.
estate classes(into which French society was officially divided).
National Assembly the revolutionary assembly made up of members of the third estate of France, which served as the French parliament.
Bastille a prison in Paris.
Declaration of the Rights of Man and of Citizen document inspired by U.S. Declaration of Independence. Stated that all men are equal and have certain rights. these include freedom of speech, assembly, and religion, and the right to fair trialk.
Reign of Terror a period of violence. thousands of citizens who were suspected of being against the revolution were put to death.
Napoleonic Code Napoleon put together/established a new system of laws for France.

assembly line a way to manufacture items in which each worker contributes on part along a moving belt or line to make a whole product.
capitalism the economic system that arose during the Industrial Revolution.
capitalists people who invested money.
market economy when the people make their own decisions about how to spend money.
traditional economy when people work and spend their money in ways that do not change much from generation to generation.
laissez faire a French expression that means, "leave it alone."
labor union represented all of the workers in a factory or and industry.
socialism most industries, businesses, land, and natural recourses are owned by the government, instead of individuals.
command economy in which the government or other central authority controls the flow of money.
