What did king Henry II do? made trials in his royal court
What problems did it cause? (remember Thomas Becket) they argued
Where did it begin? In central Asia, possibly China.
Where did it spread? It traveled along the Silk Road, probably came to Italy by ship and then spread north and west into Europe and England.
What contributed to the spread of the plague? The dirty conditions caused the plague to spread. The bacteria were carried by fleas on rats. Many homes were infested with rats
How did this affect the Jews? Why? Many people blamed the Jews for the plague, and prejudice led to many being persecuted and forced to leave cities and countries throughout Europe.
What did the plague do to the population of Europe? What percent of population died? 24 million Europeans died; China's population was reduced by half. Approximately 33% of the world’s population died.
How did the plague affect the feudal system? The need for workers was high, but there were fewer workers due to the plague. Many peasants left manors and moved to towns and cities to seek better job opportunities. This weakened the manor system
What was the English Peasants' War? The peasants entered London and presented their demands for more rights to King Richard II. The leader of the rebellion was killed and the revolt lost its momentum. The time was coming for feudalism to come to an end.
