Section 3 agricultural changes

QuestionAnswer
Where did Hannibal's army live? Off the land.
What did the Roman farmers do to the land? They burnt it.
What happens when the land is ruined? Farmers are unable to restore the land.
What did the patricians and rich business people do? They bought farms, combined them and formed large estates.
What were slaves used as? Estates.
What did the farmers do next? They sold their land and moved to Rome.
What was Rome like when the famers arrived? Crowded living conditions.
Why was there no jobs? The businesses staffed by slaves.
What did farmers do for money? They sold their votes to the politicians.
What does Rome demand from conquered people? Taxes and slaves.
What does Rome do with the tax? They sell tax contracts to the publicans and they collect taxes from the people.
What did the publicans allow? To add 10% to the tax for their expenses.
What happens to Rome during the decline? Farmers loose their land, unable to farm, merchants and artisans are poor because Romans buying goods from other territories.
What does the government officials care about? Getting rich.
