QuestionAnswer
French and Indian War (1754-1763) War between the French and the British. They were fighting for control of North America. The consequence was taxes on the colonists.
American Revolution (1775-1781) Conflict between the British and their American colonists. Battles included: Lexington and Concord (1775)-1st shots. Saratoga( 1777)-turning point because French decided to help the colonists. Yorktown (1781)-final battle in the Revolution.
War of 1812 (1812-1814) War began over the impressments of American sailors. Nothing changed after this war. Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner during this war
Mexican American War (1846-1848) War that erupted over the annexation of Texas. It ended with Mexico giving the U.S. the Mexican Cession (present day California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and parts of Colorado and Wyoming) . The U.S . Also purchased the Gadsden Purchase from Mexico.
Civil War (1861-1865) War between North and South over slavery and states' rights. Ft. Sumter (1861) Opening shots Gettysburg (1863) Turning Point Vicksburg (1863) North got control of the Mississippi River Appomattox courthouse (1865) Lee surrendered to Grant. End the War
