| Prejudice | a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason |
| Discrimination | the unjust treatment of minorities |
| Racism | the belief that members of a race posses certain qualities that make it inferior or superior |
| Segregation | the enforced separation of different racial groups |
| Integration | the intermixing of people or groups previously segregated |
| Boycott | to withdraw from buying or handling something as an act of punish or protest |
| Civil disobedience | the refuse to comply with certain laws as an act of protest |
| Poverty | the state of being extremely poor |
| Medicare | a federal system of health insurance for people over 65 years old and for people with disabilities |
| Medicaid | a federal system of health insurance for those in financial trouble |
| Sit-in | a form of protest in which participants occupy a place and refuse to leave until their demands are met |
| Feminist | a person who supports feminism |
| Interstate | a system of expressways covering the 48 mainland U.S. states |
| Hispanic | a person Latin American descent |
