Amendment 1 Freedom of religion, assembly, petition, press, and speech R.A.P.P.S
Amendment 2 Right to bear arms
Amendment 3 Right against quarting (housing) soldiers
Amendment 4 No unlawful search and seizure/ right to privacy
Amendment 5 Don't testify against yourself/ right to remain silent
Amendment 6 Right to a lawyer/ speedy trial
Amendment 7 Right to a jury in civil cases
Amendment 8 No cruel and unusual punishment
5 things required by law obey the laws, pay taxes, jury duty, education, BOYS ONLY- register for the draft
Declaration written in 1776 by Thomas Jefferson. It said 13 colonies were now free & independent country called the USA. Includes basic rights (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness), British wrongs, Independent nation
Constitution written in 1787 by James Madison because the Articles of Confederation were weak. It sets up the laws for our nation and how our government is run. Includes 3 branches of government, Bill of rights. There is a total of 27 amendments
Chief of State Represents all American Citizens at many occasions Example: throwing the first pitch
Chief Executive Oversees the departments that help carry out the laws. Appoints cabinet members & federal judges
Chief Diplomat Directs the nation's foreign policy
Commander in Chief The President is the head of the military
Legislative Leader Proposes new laws & works for their passage
Economic Leader President tries to keep the economy running smoothly (money)
Party Chief Head of his political party Can help members of his party run for office & help the party raise money for campaigns
