monotheism belief in one God
Muslim name given to a follower of the religion of Islam which means "one who submits"
/Hēj räh/ Hijrah name given to the pilgrimage that Muhammad made from Mecca to Medina
/Kür’ än/ Qur'an the holy book of Islam
/Sün nə/ Sunna the body of Islamic custom and practice based on the words and deeds of Muhammad
/shə rē’ ə/ shari'a Islamic law based on the Qur'an and the Sunna
/Kä lēf/ Caliph a successor of Muhammad who acts as the leader of Muslims
"rightly guided" Caliphs name given to the first four successors of Muhammad
