| 8. North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) | military alliance formed to counter Soviet Union expansion |
| 9. Warsaw Pact | military alliance of the Soviet Union and its states |
| 10. 38th Parallel | dividing line between North and South Korea |

| 25. Hollywood Ten | movie writers, directors, and producers who refused to answer HUAC questions about communist ties |
| 26. blacklist | people who weren't hired because of suspected communist ties |
| McCarthyism | negative catchword for extreme, wreck less charges of disloyalty |
