Waiting for the Rains: The Effects of Monsoons in South Asia

rain shadow a dry area on the downwind side of a mountain

downwind in the direction that the wind is blowing
delta the triangle-shape deposit of sand and sediment that occurs where a river flows into an ocean

cloud seeding scattering chemicals into clouds to bring about rain
tundra a climate zone with very cold winters, cold summers and little rain or snow
permafrost frozen ground
