TermDefinition
Humanism A philosophy that attempts to balance religious faith with belief in the power of the mind.
Perspective The art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point.
Classical Art Art that is influenced by the style of Rome and Greece.
Renaissance Art the painting, sculpture and decorative arts of that period of European history known as the Renaissance, emerging as a distinct style in Italy in about 1400, in parallel with developments which occurred in philosophy, literature, music and science
Patron a person who gives financial or other support to a person, organization, cause, or activity.
City-State A city that with its surrounding territory forms an independent state.
Humanities A study of the human body and what the human can accomplish themselves.
Republic A form of government where citizens elect people to rule for them
