| unemployment | the state of being unemployed or out of work |
| patriotism | love and support of one's nation |
| producer | a person or a company that makes goods or provides services |
| income | money earned by people or businesses for services or products |
| migrant worker | a person who moves from place to place to work |
| G.I. Bill | a program that paid veterns a small amount of money if they enrolled in some type of schooling, such as college |
| discrimination | the unfair treatment of a group of people |
| civil rights | the rights to freedom and equality |
| sit-in | a kind of protest in which people refuse to leave a place until their demands are met |
| suffrage | the right to vote |
| communism | a system in which the government owns most or all businesses and land in a country |
| export | to sell to another country |
| inflation | an overall rise in the costs of goods and services |
| import | to bring in from another country |
