qc CNS must be used (tissue should contain senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles from alzheimer pt. if possible)
results axon/cytoplasmic neurofibrils - brown to black, neurofibrillary tangles and plaques (from alzheimer pt's) - dk brown or black, neromelanin - black, lipofuscin - brown or black, blackground - yellow
notes must use chem cleaned glassware that is rinsed twice in distilled water.
what is positive about this stain method requires much less silver nitrate
