what makes the impregnation solution alkaline and what is its purpose pyridine, changes the electrostatic condition of the tissue.
procedure impregnate with alkaline soln, reducer (hydroquinone/soduim sulfite), tone with gold chloride, oxalic acid (reduces gold chloride and gives purple tinge), soduim sulfate to remove excess silver)
results axons, nerve fibers, neurofibrils - black
