7 SS Vocabulary

Here are activities to help you review required vocabulary for 7th grade.

polytheism belief in many gods poly means "many"
monotheism belief in one god mono means "one"
topography the physical features of the land including mountains, deserts, and plateaus
monarchy form of government where there is one ruler who is a king/queen and inherits power mono means "one"
republic form of government where the people elect representatives to make decisions for them.
tyranny form of government where one leader usually take control by force and has the support of the military
democracy form of government where the people rule
veto to reject or decline
analyze to break down into smaller pieces in order to study
cultural diffusion the spread of one's culture from one area to another
culture the beliefs and behaviors of a society or a group
primary source comes from someone who observed or witnessed the event/time period being studied
secondary source comments/interpretations given on an event at a later time period.
oligarchy a form of government where a small group(a few)of people rule, usually aristocrats
aristocrats wealthy landowners
legacy something you are remembered for long after you are gone
empire a large area made up of many countries ruled by one person
city-state has its own laws and form of government and acts like its own country
feudalism the economic and political system of medieval Europe in which people exchanged loyalty and labor for a lord's protection
persecute to treat someone harshly because of his/her religious beliefs
clergy leaders of the church
Crusades wars fought by Christians to recapture the Holy Land from the Muslims.
