Who were the Taino? They were one of the peoples living on the Islands in the Atlantic ocean the Columbus visited.
What happened to the Taino by the 1500's? By the mid 1500's almost all of the Taino were dead.
How did Christopher Columbus get the money he needed for his journey? From King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain.
Why do people remember Christopher Columbus today? People remember Columbus by his voyage.
What was one good effect of the Columbian exchange for the peoples of the Americas? Horses were brought to the Americas.
What was one bad effect of the Columbian exchange? It brought European disease.
What were the Spanish troops looking for in Mexico? Gold and riches.
How was Hernando Cortes able to conquer the Aztec on their own land? The Spanish had more powerful weapons. Thousands of Indians helped the Spanish against Montuzma.
What lands made up new Spain? Much of the Caribbean Islands, Central America(present day) Country of Mexico and Southwest Florida.
What is a missionary? A person who tries to convert people to his or her religion.
Why did Bartolome de Las Casas come to New Spain? He came to run an encomienda.
What did Bartolome do there? He devoted himself to ending the encomiendas and became known as the protector of the Indians.
What events occured in 1519? COrtes invades Mexico; Magellan begins and expidition around the world.
