president Harding Harding: 29th President of the United States; two of his appointees were involved in the Teapot Dome scandal (1865-1823)
teapot dome a government scandal involving a former United States Navy oil reserve in Wyoming that was secretly leased to a private oil company in 1921; became symbolic of the scandals of the Harding administration
president Coolidge Coolidge: elected vice president and succeeded as 30th President of the United States when Harding died in 1923 (1872-1933)
laissez-faire a policy or attitude of letting things take their own course, without interfering.
isolationist a policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other groups, esp. the political affairs of other countries.
kellogg- Briand Pact The Kellogg–Briand Pact was a 1928 international agreement in which signatory states promised not to use war to resolve "disputes or conflicts of whatever nature or of whatever origin they may be, which may arise among them".
assembaly line a series of workers and machines in a factory by which a succession of identical items is progressively assembled. "their latest economy car rolled off the assembly line last August
installment plan an arrangement for payment by installments.
henry ford Ford: United States manufacturer of automobiles who pioneered mass production (1863-1947)
"ohio gang" The Ohio Gang was a gang of politicians and industry leaders closely surrounding Warren G. Harding, the 29th President of the United States of America. Many of these individuals came into Harding's personal orbit during his tenure.
prohibition the prevention by law of the manufacture and sale of alcohol, esp. in the US between 1920 and 1933.
fundalism the theroy of evolution being taught in schoools world wide.
evolution the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth.
louis armstrong Armstrong: United States pioneering jazz trumpeter and bandleader (1900-1971)
charalse A. lindenburg Lindbergh: United States aviator who in 1927 made the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean (1902-1974)
f.scott fitzgerald Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was an American author of novels and short stories, whose works are the paradigmatic writings of the Jazz Age, a term he coined. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century
babe ruth Ruth: United States professional baseball player famous for hitting home runs (1895-1948)
helen willis hellen willis : Moody: United States tennis player who dominated women's tennis in the 1920s and 1930s (1905-1998)
