Amendment 1 Protects freedom of religion, speech, press, peaceful assembly, complaint against the government
Amendment 2 Second Amendment Protects the right to own and use firearms
Amendment 3 States that government cannot force people to house soldiers
Amendment 4 Protects people from unfair searches and seizures of property
Amendment 5 No one can be withheld of life, liberty or property without the decision of a court of law
Amendment 6 The right to a trial by jury and a lawyer in criminal cases
Amendment 7 The right to a fair trial by a jury in most civil cases
Amendment 8 Prohibits very high bail, fines, and extreme punishments
Amendment 9 The rights of the people are not limited to those in the Constitution
Amendment 10 Powers not granted to the federal government are left to the states or the people to decide
Bill of Rights The Bill of Rights is the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution (people's rights) It protects the rights of the people
The Constitution the basic principles and laws of a nation, state, or social group that determine the powers and duties of the government and guarantee certain rights to the people in it
