| Provincial Congress | The legislative body established in 1775 by the general committee of 99 to handle South Carolina's Governemnt |
| Mercenary | A Solider who will fight for anyone willing to pay him |
| Civil War | A War Between Parties Or Sections of the same country |
| Loyalist | one who supported the British king and Parliament during the American Revolution |
| Patriot | one who supported the Continental and Provincial Congress during the American Revolution and who favored independence |
| Skirmish | fighting between small groups |
| Neutral | to not take sides during a disagreement |
| Stalemate | a situation where there is no winner or a loser ; a tie or deadlock |
| Coonstitution | a document that sets up the framework of a government for (or any organization) and establishes the rules under which that organization will operate |
| Declaration of Independence | the 1776 document by which the American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain |
| Siege | a situation that occurs when armed forces try to capture a fortified fort or town by surrounding it and preventing any supplies from reaching it |
| Confiscate | to seize or take over by legal authority |
| Parole | allowed to go home or be forgiven |
| Guerrilla Warfare | a strategy in which small groups of soldiers harass or launch surprise attacks on the enemy and then disappear |
