why did Sparta declare war on Athens? when the Athenians attacked one of Sparta's allies.
what was the war called? the Peloponnesian war.
how long did the Peloponnesian last? 30 years.
when the war ended what did Athens do? they surrendered to Sparta.
who were mercenaries? hired soldiers in the Persian army.
what happened when the Spartans took control of Athens? they set up an oligarchy and choose 30 Athenian aristocrats to rule there.
