What are the two houses in the Legislative Branch? The Senate and The House of Representatives.
In The House of Representatives, who are the representatives picked by? The people of their district.
Who is the head of the Executive Branch? The President.
What are the other members of the Executive Branch besides the President? Vice President, Cabinet, agencies and departments.
What is the system by which the President is elected called? The electoral college.
There are two courts in The Judicial Branch. What are they? The Supreme Court and The Lower Courts.
The Supreme Court consists of...? a Chief Justice and 8 Associate Justices.
Who are the Justices appointed by? The President.
Who approves the appointments? Congress.
What is the most important power of The Supreme Court? Judicial Review - what the Constitution means.
"Form a more perfect Union" All states work together
"Establish Justice" Treated equally
"Provide for the common defense" Protect its citizens against foreign attacks
"Promote the general welfare" Wellbeing of all its citizens
"Secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity" Protect the rights of its citizens today and in the future
Popular Sovereignty People are the primary source of the government's authority
Why did the framers restrict the power of government? In fear that a powerful president will make himself a king
Limited Government The government only has the powers that the Constitution gives it
Why was the Separation of Powers a principle of the framers? The framers were concerned that too much power might fall within one group
Separation of Powers Divided the power of the government into 3 different branches
Checks and Balances Each branch exercises control over the other branches
Federalism System of government in which the states and National Government share powers
Republicanism Belief that people exercise their power by voting for political reps to make the laws
Individual Rights Personal liberties and privileges
