Naturalism Idea that some people could not control their lives and make choices to improve their situation. Some failed in life simply because they were caught up in circumstances beyond their control.
Social Gospel Salvation Army, YMCA, women's clubs, settlement houses and temperance movements. Reform working to better conditions in cities according to the biblical ideas of charity and justice.
Jane Addams Established Settlement Houses in poor neighborhoods. whereby middle class residents lived and helped the poor, mostly immigrants. She opened famous Hull House in Chicago.
