Revolution A fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time
Petition A formal request
Constitution A set of basic principles that determines the powers and duties of a government
Debtor People who owe money
Creditor People who lend money
tariff Taxes on imports or exports
Popular Sovereignty The idea that political authority belongs to the people; also a principle that would allow voters in a particular territory to decide whether to ban or permit slavery
Legislative Supremacy The legislative branch has more power than the other two branches this makes the legislative branch the supreme power
Interstate Commerce Trade that is conducted between states
Inflation Increased prices for goods and services combined with the reduced value of money
Depression A steep drop in economic activity combined with rising unemployment
Bicameral Legislature A lawmaking body made up of two houses
