What were reason for the decline of the Byzantine Empire? The Crusades: people came and took over trade routes. The Bubonic Plague: killed many people and effected trade. Conquered by Muslims: Ottoman and the Seljuk Turks
What were successes of Ivan the Great. (Ivan the third) He fought against Mongols: gained liberation from Mongol rule. He built eh framework for absolute rule, wanted to limit the power of landowning nobles, and adopted Byzantine court rituals.
Why was Ivan IV given the title of Ivan the Terrible? He did what he wanted, and created the agents of terror.
What tradition did Ivan IV introduce to Russia that shaped their history all the way through the 20th century? Extreme absolute rule.
