| What did the Aztecs believe? | They believed that a "light-skinned god" would return to rule them. |

| How did the Aztecs die? | They died in battle or from diseases brought by the Spanish. |

| What does Cortes do? | He sends a priest on an exploration to search for the gold city, the priest went with a slave. |
| What happens during the expedition? | The slave dies but the priest returns telling of a golden city. |
| Who was Francisco Pizarro? | He was an explorer for Spain. |
| What did Pizarro do in 1531? | He and 180 soldiers/sailors explored western coast of South America. |
| Who does he encounter in South America? | He encounters the Incas. |
| What happened after the Incas declined the priest? | War breaks out! |
| How did the Inca leader get captured? | During the war Pizarro captured him. He holds him for ransom. Demands a room full of silver and gold. |
| After Pizarro received the ransom he did what? | He killed the leader anyway and took the gold and silver. |
| How many Incas were killed or captured? | 200 Spanish killed more than 2,000 Inca and captured 5,000 more. |
| Who is Hernando de Soto? | He was a Spanish explorer and explored the southeastern US |
| What did de Soto do in 1539? | He and 600 men sailed from Cuba to Tampa Bay Area. |
| What would de Soto be the first European to do? | He became the first European to see the Mississippi River. |
