Preparing for the Revolution

revolution a war to replace another government
Why they want independence? The colonist want to run their own government, because the British are unfair in their treatment of them.
French and Indian War French and Indians were in war with Britain (which included the colonist). The colonist did not ask to be in the war, which was over the control of land.
Who won the French and Indian war? Britain
What land did they end of gaining control of? From Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River, and North to Canada.
French and Indians joined forces because.... the French did not destroy the land, they paid the Indians for their land, and they traded with them.
Stamp Act One of the reasons the Revolution started, it was a law that tax to put a stamp on all kinds of papers. (playing cards, documents) They would not be legal without the stamp.
Tea Act Another tax placed on the colonist, where they had to pay tax on tea.
Boston Tea Party A protest by a group of colonist, that took the tea and threw it into the harbor, which ruined it.
Other reasons the Md. colonist were angry: taxes went to the Church of England, couldn't practice their own religion, could not hold office or vote (if they practiced a different religion)
Freedom of Religion the reason why Md. was settled
1st Continental Congress Delegates met in Philadelphia about problems with England, they made a plan not to trade with the British or boycott any of their goods until they got their way.

Maryland Convention Took the place of the Colonial government, made laws for Maryland

Patrick Henry Spoke in Richmond to unite the colonies, and said,"Give me Liberty or Give me death"
Sons of Liberty A group of men from Annapolis that worked together to force the British to repeal the Stamp Act
The Shot heard around the world the event that started the war, it was the first shots between the colonist and Britain in Lexington. The British were coming to take the weapons away from the colonist.
2nd Continental Congress created the Continental Army with George Washington as the commander

the 1st part of Declaration of Independence say Why the colonist were declaring independence from the British.
What does the 2ND part of Declaration of Independence say All men are born with certain rights.
