Who were the Vikings? They explored North America before Columbus but didn't stay
Christopher Columbus Found North America after the vikings and stayed.
Amerigo Vespucci examined the west Indies for Portugal. In 1507 a mapmaker called the new land, "America" after him.
Ferdinand Magellan Wanted to get to Asia either through or around America. Was killed in the Phillipines but one of his ships returned to Spain in 1522 and he was credited with being the first to circumnavigate the world.
Hernando Cortez Spanish explorer that conquered the Aztecs. He was given the title of Captain General and Governor of New Spain in 1522
Francisco Pizarro Spanish explorer that conquered the Incas and as a result opened up the western coast of South America for exploration.
Henry Hudson from Holland, 1608 found the Hudson River
Samuel de Champlain From France, 1609 found Lake Champlain
Northwest Passage many explorers thought that there was an all water route through America to Asia. (it didn't exist.)
New England Colonies More industrial than agricultural
Southern Colonies More agricultural than industrial
Middle Colonies both industrial and agricultural
