Colonial history

Colony A group of people living together in a new land but keeping ties with the mother country
William Penn Brought Quakers and others looking for religious freedom to Pennsylvania. He also promised them 500 acres of land.
Church of England Everyone in England had to belong to this church. The king of England was the head of the church
Puritan Member of a religious group that settled Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630
Pilgrim Member of a religious group that settled Plymouth Colony in 1620.
New England Colonies Massachusetts and New Hampshire belong to this group of colonies.
Quakers This group found religious freedom in Pennsylvania.
Southern Colonies Maryland and Virginia belong to this group of colonies.
Middle Colonies New York and New Jersey belong to this group of colonies.
Plymouth Colony Founded by the Pilgrims
Mayflower Compact A paper telling how the Plymouth Colony was to be run
Roanoke Colony All of the colonists mysteriously disappeared.
