barrier islands a coastal landform and a type of barrier system, flat and lumpy areas of sand
piedmont is an area at or near the foot of a mountain region.
fall line the boundary between the Peidmont & the coastal plain.
basins make up most of the intermountain region.
hot spot a place where magma wells up to the surface from Earth's mantle.
natural hazards events in the physical environment that can destroy human life and propery.
lichens small plants that consist of algae and fungi.
alluvial soils soil deposited by streams or rivers.
