| Animism | Belief: Every living and nonliving thing have a spirit. Every traditional. The worship their ancestors. Location: Still found in some traditional societies but often with traditional African culture. |
| Shintoism | Belief: spirits of Kami dwell in many forms of the natural world. Location: Traditional belief system of Japan |
| Hinduism | Belief: Reincarnation when your soul is born in to another person or thing. Caste Systems: People are born in different castes. If you are good you go up but if you are bad you go down. Grange River: The holy river people bathe in. Location: India |
| Buddhism | Belief: Everyone suffers. In order to end suffering you have to end your desires. Nirvana: Leading the right kind of life Location: Began in India and spread to China, Japan, and Southern Asia |
| Confucianism | Belief: Based on the teacher Confucius -People should lead a good life -Education should be the way people advance in society -Government officials should be well educated and good role models |
| Judaism | Belief: Monotheistic- (believe in one God) God will send a Messiah. Good behavior will be rewarded in Heaven Texts: Torah and the Ten Commandment Location: Began in Middle East |
| Christianity | Beliefs: Monotheistic. God did send a messiah. Jesus is the sun of God. Faith in him will be rewarded. Text: Bible Location: Began in Middle East. Spread by the roman Empire, through Europe, then all over the world |
| Islam | Belief: Monotheistic. Five Pillars of faith Text: Quran (Koran) Location: Began in Middle East by Mohammed. Dominates the Middle East area today |
| Taoism | Belief: -Began by Lao Tzu - Followers must follow Toa - Follow the way of nature |
