Other Natural Resources of Pennsylvania

| natural resource | Raw materials that exist in a natural state and are used to produce products or finished goods. |
| forest | A large growth of trees and underbrush. |
| loam | Made up of sand, silt, clay, and organic matter which makes up much of soil. |
| fossil fuels | Resources formed millions of years ago from remains of plants and animals under the earth's crust. |
| anthracite | Hard coal. |
| bituminous | Soft coal. |
| natural gas | Gas coming from the earth's crust through natural openings or bored wells. |
| petroleum | An oily flammable liquid obtained from wells drilled in the ground and refined into gasoline and fuel oils |
| mineral resources | Any useful substance found in the earth that has not been formed by plant and animal remains. |
| human resources | Utilizing the talents of the state's population. |
| population density | An average of how many people there are per square mile. |
| census | A periodic governmental count of the population. |
