Other Natural Resources of Pennsylvania

TermDefinition
natural resource Raw materials that exist in a natural state and are used to produce products or finished goods.
forest A large growth of trees and underbrush.
loam Made up of sand, silt, clay, and organic matter which makes up much of soil.
fossil fuels Resources formed millions of years ago from remains of plants and animals under the earth's crust.
anthracite Hard coal.
bituminous Soft coal.
natural gas Gas coming from the earth's crust through natural openings or bored wells.
petroleum An oily flammable liquid obtained from wells drilled in the ground and refined into gasoline and fuel oils
mineral resources Any useful substance found in the earth that has not been formed by plant and animal remains.
human resources Utilizing the talents of the state's population.
population density An average of how many people there are per square mile.
census A periodic governmental count of the population.
