| Allied Powers | the alliance of Great Britain, France, Russia, and the US during WWI (began as the Triple Entente) |
| Central Powers | the alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary, the ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria during WWI (began as the Triple Alliance) |
| Great War | European conflict from 1914-1918: also known as World War I and " the war to end all wars". |
| Militarism | Using strong armies and threats of war. |
| Nationalism | The love of one's country |
| Ottoman Empire | Turkey and its colonies |
| Scramble for Africa | The division of much of Africa among European countries between 1885-1910. |
| Ally | Political or military partner |
| Imperialism | When 1 country takes over another country. |
| Ethnic Group | People of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture |
| Primary Source | Information that comes directly from a person who experienced an event. |
| Secondary Source | Information about an event that does not come directly from a person who experienced that event. |
