What was the result of the french and indian war? The British win the war and they won land
What is the Proclamation of 1763? All colonists couldn't move west of the Appalachian Mts. because it's Native American Territory
What did the stamp act place a tax on? Anything made of paper
Who were the sons of liberty? Patriots who rebelled against Great Britain
What is taxation w/o representation? Americans were taxed w/o rep. from the parliament
What happens @ Lexington & Concord The shot heard 'round the world
What did patriots think about King George & Great Britain That he was a terrible king & those were terrible taxes
What does "Common Sense" Say and who wrote it? Thomas Paine wrote it. It speaks out for the patriots.
Declaration of Independence The document signed on July 4, 1776 which declared America as a free nation
Who wrote it? Thomas Jefferson
What does it say? All men are created equal
Why is it written? To declare independence
What group of Americans question what it says and why? African Americans, because they didn't know if these rights applied to them.
When was it signed? July 4th, 1776
What did 2nd Continental Congress do? Created an army & appointed George Washington as general
What were the strengths of the Americans in battle? Their army had people willingly gave their lives to defend the ideal of a country based on liberty and democracy. Also, General Washington was more than an experienced military leader. He was also a man who inspired courage and confidence.
What were the Americans' weaknesses? The Continental army was always short of men. Few Americans were trained for battle. The army was plagued by shortages.
What were the British's Strengths? With a professional army of about 42,000 troops at the beginning of the war, British forces greatly outnumbered the Continental army British and Hessian troops were well trained in European military tactics The British forces were well supplied, as well
What were the British's weaknesses? Sending troops and supplies across the Atlantic was slow and costly. News of battles arrived in England long after they had occurred, making it difficult for British leaders to plan a course of action. poor leadership
Washington's new strategy after 1776? Smaller battles
Victory @ Saratoga did what for the continental army? It gave them hope
What did Friedrich Von Steuben do for the Americans? He trained the continental army
Who was General Burgoyne? He was leader of the british army
How did the war impact other parts of the world? It inspired Europeans to have their own democracies
What is the Treaty of Paris? A document promising peace between both forces
What happened @ the Boston Massacre? Patriots fought against british forces w/ 5 men dead
What happened in The Battle of Yorktown? Describe. The Americans tricked the british into going to Yorktown while the Americans were heading south. The naval fleet was unable to help the British

Boston Tea Party When Patriots didn't want to pay tax for their tea, so they dumped it in the harbor. {90,000 lbs.}
