Mesopotamia The region between the Tigris and Euphrates. Means Land between the Rivers.
Fertile Crescent a region of western Asia. A lush green area through which two rivers, Tigris and Euphrates, flowed.

scribe an official writer
Sumer a region southern Mesopotamia
city-states a self-governing city that also governs nearby villages
ziggurat a tall flattened pyramid made of mud-brick. Had a temple on its flattened top.
polytheism a belief in many gods and goddesses
empire a group of lands and people ruled by one government
Sargon a famous king of a city-state called Kish. Created the first great empire in history.
Gilgamesh a great legend, a hero, part god and part human, set out on a long journey to try to discover how humans could live forever
Enheduana a Sumerian priestess and scibe.
