| Constitution | the written plan for governing the U.S.A. |
| federal | a system of government in which the national and state governments share power |
| legislative branch | the part of government that makes laws |
| Capitol | the building where the Congress of the U.S. meets |
| executive branch | the part of government that enforces the laws |
| White House | the place where the President of the U.S. lives and works |
| judicial branch | the part of government made up of courts and judges |
| Supreme Court | the highest court in the U.S. |
| amendment | a change to the U.S. Constitution |
| Bill of Rights | the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution; the state the basic rights of U.S. citizens |
| passport | a paper or booklet that gives a person permission to travel to other countries |
| taxes | money the government collects to pay for it's services |
| jury | a panel of ordinary citizens who make decisions in a court of law |
