Core Vocabulary for Term 1

TermDefinition
Pre-Columbian The time period in North & South America before Columbus arrived.
European Renaissance A period in Europe between the 14th and 17th Centuries were there was a “rebirth” in learning, arts, and sciences.
Plague A highly contagious disease that caused a vast amounts of deaths.
Profit An increase in money. When you earn more than you spend.
Civilization The type of culture and society developed by a large group of people or region
Aztecs A large pre-Columbian civilization that lived in modern day Mexico.
Incas A large pre-Columbian civilization that lived in South America’s Andes Mountains.
Conquistadors The name of a Spanish explorer that was known for taking over other civilizations.
Artifact An object made by humans that helps us understand a society’s culture.
Colony An area of land that is under political control by another country.
