How does a UNITARY government distribute power? CENTRAL AUTHORITY holds all power, and the states in the country have LITTLE POWER
How does a CONFEDERATE government distribute power? STATES hold all the power to voluntarily join or leave a WEAK CENTRAL AUTHORITY
How does a FEDERAL government distribute power? Power is SHARED or DIVIDED between CENTRAL AUTHORITY and STATES
What is an AUTOCRACY? *Dictators *Unlimited power *Examples: N Korea or Czar *citizens have NO POWER
What is an OLIGARCHY? FEW people hold power (small group); citizens have little power (if any)
What is DEMOCRACY? CITIZENS HOLD POWER - by VOTING
What is a PRESIDENTIAL DEMOCRACY? People (citizens) vote directly for the president SEPARATE from the Legislative Branch
What is a PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY? People (citizens) vote for the MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE (PARLIAMENT) and the PARLIAMENT PICKS THE PRIME MINISTER FROM ITS MEMBERS
How is the distribution of power in UK different from GERMANY and RUSSIA? UK is UNITARY; GERMANY and RUSSIA are FEDERAL
How does one become a MONARCH? Be born into a family
Which country has a CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCH? UK - it is Queen Elizabeth
How much power does a CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCH have? Very little - the constitution gives power to the PEOPLE
How much power an ABSOLUTE MONARCH have? ALL THE POWER - like a dicatator or czar
How is the type of democracy found in UK and GERMANY different than the democracy in RUSSIA? UK and GERMANY are PARLIAMENTARY and RUSSIA is PRESIDENTIAL DEMOCRACY
Which two countries have the most citizens rights? UK and GERMANY have more rights than RUSSIA
How is the CHIEF EXECUTIVE of GERMANY different than the CHIEF EXECUTIVE of RUSSIA? In Germany, the chief executive is the CHANCELLOR, chosen by legislature, and in Russia the chief executive is PRESIDENT, chosen by the citizens
