What was Church of England? The Church of England was made up of English that broke away from the Catholic Church and formed their own religious group.
These people wanted to purify the church. The Puritans wanted to purify the church.
Who were the Separatists? The Separatists did not agree with some of the practices of the Church of England and wanted to separate, or cut, all ties with the Church.
This was the place where the Pilgrims first tried to emigrate. The Pilgrims first tried to emigrate to the Netherlands but they felt they were losing their English culture, and were also not satisfied with the jobs that were available.
What was the Joint Stock Company? A joint stock company is a group of investors. Pilgrims asked merchants to buy stock so they could start a new colony in North America.
This is the actual place where the Pilgrims landed. The Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, but wanted to actually land by Jamestown. But, Because of bad weather they landed too far north near Cape Cod.
Who was William Bradford? William Bradford was the pastor of the Church and he was also the Governor of Plymouth.
This was the first document the Pilgrims made. The Mayflower Compact was the first document that set up a self-government of the Pilgrims.
Who was Samoset? Samoset was the first native American to make contact with the Pilgrims. He was able to speak some English because of fishermen who had visited that area.
This person taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, where to catch fish, and how to fertilize fields. Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, where to catch fish, and how to fertilize the fields with the fish remains.
What was the Wampanoag tribe? The Wampanoag tribe was a group of many tribes that lived together near Plymouth. The tribe is led by Chief Massasoit. Throughout Chief Massasoit's lifetime, there was a peace agreement between the Plymouth colony and the Wampanoag tribe.
