What was the church formed when the English left the Catholic Church? The Church of England
Why did they form the Church of England? The king wanted to divorce his wife which was against the laws of the Catholic Church.
Who were the Puritans? They were a group of people who wanted to purify the Church of England because it was corrupt.
Who were the Separatists? They left the Church of England because it was corrupt.
Where did the Separatists go when they had to leave England? They went to the Netherlands.
Why did they leave the Netherlands? They thought they were losing their English culture, their children were not growing up like they wanted them to, and they did not like the jobs they were getting.
What was the Joint Stock Company? A group of investors that bought stock in the Pilgrims new colony so they would share in the profits of the colony.
What was Plymouth? It was the Pilgrims settlement in America.
Where did the Pilgrims originally want to go and why didn't they get there? They wanted to go to Jamestown but because of bad weather they got blown off course.
Who was William Bradford? He was the Pastor and Governor of Plymouth.
What was the Mayflower Compact? It was a document that set up laws for the settlers of Plymouth.
Who was Samoset? He was the first Native American to make contact with the Pilgrims.
What did Samoset do? He was able to communicate between the Pilgrims and the Natives because he learned english from fishermen that came to the area.
What did Squanto do for the Pilgrims? He taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, where to fish, and how to fertilize the fields with fish remains.
Who were the Wampanoags? A group of smaller tribes put together that lived near Plymouth. Their chief was Chief Massasoit. There was a long lasting peace treaty between them and the Pilgrims.
