When England broke away from the Catholic church, what did they form? The Church of England
When people started disagreeing with The Church of England, what two groups were formed? The Puritans and the Separatists
How did the Puritans react to the problems in the church? They wanted to stay in the church and correct the wrongs within itself.
What did the Separatists do about the problems in the church? The Separatists didn't want anything to do with the Church of England, so they cut all ties and moved to the Netherlands.
Why did the Separatists move to the Netherlands? To get away from the Church of England and have more religious freedoms.
Why did the Separatists end up leaving the Netherlands? They felt that they were going to lose their English ways and they were not satisfied with the jobs that were available.
What was the Joint Stock Company and what was its purpose? The Joint Stock Company was a group of investors, often merchants, that the Pilgrims asked to buy stock to support their journey to the New World.
Where did the Pilgrims originally want to land, and where did the land? They wanted to settle somewhere near Jamestown, but because of bad weather and rough seas they landed near Cape Cod.
What was the land called that they settled at? How is that significant? The land was called Plymouth and this is significant because they sailed from a town called Plymouth.
While the Pilgrims were still on board the Mayflower, they came up with the Mayflower Compact. What did it do? The Mayflower Compact bound everyone who signed it to following any form of government that they would've come up with.
Who were the Wampanoags? The Wampanoags were a group of Native Americans that were ruled by a Chief Massasoit. The Pilgrims ended up negotiating and making a peace treaty with them that lasted until the Chief died.
Who was Samoset and how was he significant to the Pilgrims? Samoset was the first Native American to come in contact with the Pilgrims. He knew how to speak English because he talked with the fishermen that stopped there often.
What did Squanto do that helped the Pilgrims so much? He taught them how to hunt, fish, grow corn, and fertilize fields with fish remains.
Who was William Bradford? He was a Pilgrim Pastor and he was governor of Plymouth for 30 years.
