Pilgrim Review

QuestionAnswer
When the english broke away from the Catholic Church what did they form? They formed their own religious group and built the Church of England.
What did the Puritans want to do? They wanted to purify (correct the wrongs) the church
What did separatist not agree with? What did they want to separate from? They didn't agree with some of the practices. They also wanted to separate from the Church.
Who were the first to try to emigrate to the Netherlands? Why did they not like it in the Netherlands very much? The Pilgrims were the first to try to emigrate to the Netherlands. They felt like they were losing English culture and weren't happy with the jobs available.
What is a joint stock company? Who did the Pilgrims ask to buy stock? What did the Pilgrims want to start? Joint stock company is a group of investors. The Pilgrims asked the Merchants to buy stock. They wanted to start a colony in North America.
Where did the Pilgrims want to land? What blew them of course and made them land near Cape Cod? They wanted to land by Jamestown but because of bad weather they landed too far north.
Who was William Bradford? He was pastor, and governor of Plymouth.
What was the Mayflower Compact? It was the first document to set up a self-government.
Who was Samoset? First Native American to make contact with Pilgrims. He spoke some English and learned to speak English.
Who was Squanto? He taught the Pilgrims how to fish where to catch fish how to fertilize fields with fish remains.
Who were the Wampanoag? A group of Native American tribes ruled by Chief Massasoit. Massasoit and Pilgrims negotiated a peace agreement.
