Bribe A payment to someone to make a person act in a certain way
Mugwump A reform group that wanted to replace the spoils system with civil service
Civil Service A system in which people are appointed rather than elected to government jobs
Nominate To choose someone to do something, such as run for office
Strike The act of stopping work to get better pay and working conditions
Anarchist A person or group against all forms of government
Prosecute To charge with a crime
Democracy A form of governmnet in which the citizens take part
Gold Standard A system in which a basic unit of currency is equal to a certain weight of gold
