Vocabulary for 3rd grade Geography

TermDefinition
globe A 3D model of the Earth
politcal map a map that shows main cities and borders between states and countries
physical map a map that shows physical features of Earth such as rivers, mountains and oceans
cartographer someone who makes maps
alphanumeric grid a set of horizontal and vertical lines that show points on a map using letters and numbers
symbols pictures on a map that stand for something else
map key tells what symbols on a map stand for, also called a legend
compass rose picture on a map that shows cardinal and intermediate directions
cardinal directions North, South, East, West
map title tells what the map is about
map scale a measurement that compares the distance on a map to the distance in real life
